Create Account

  1. Go to github.com and click Sign up (upper right corner)
  2. Enter your email address (you'll receive repository activity alerts here)
  3. Create a strong password and store it in your password manager
  4. Choose a username (use a variation of your name or something work-related)
  5. Click Create Account and complete the CAPTCHA verification
  6. Enter the launch code sent to your email
  7. Log in and go to github.com/settings/profile
  8. Add your name in the Name field (helps team members find you)
  9. (Optional) Add additional profile information and/or your ORCID iD
  10. Click Update profile

Join the Hakai GitHub Org

You will likely need to join the Hakai Institute GitHub Org (github.com/hakaiInstitute). Discuss your requirements with your team lead and email data@hakai.org to request access.

Create a Person Access Token

In order to “clone” repositories from GitHub and allow tools like RStudio to interact with these repositories, you must Create a Personal Access Token (PAT) for HTTPS.
